The Black forest is the greatest low mountain range in Germany, stretching along the east side of the Rhine valley. The highest peak is the Feldberg with an elevation of 1493 m ASL. The Black Forest is crossed by numerous long distance footpaths. The wellknown footpath is the Westweg. The European long-distance footpath E1 crosses the Black Forest following the Westweg to the Feldberg.
